Athletic Bilbao winger Markel Susaeta is keen to see more action with Spain after netting on his debut against Panama.
Susaeta scored La Roja’s fourth goal in the 5-1 friendly rout two weeks ago but was the subject of some controversy in the build-up when he referred to international duty as ‘one thing’, a comment some misinterpreted as political.
“I was surprised by all the controversy as I did not mean anything bad,” the 24-year-old is quoted as saying by AS.
“I have to thank the Federation and my club for supporting me, because everything was due to a misinterpretation of what I said. It was a shame.
“But to play and score a goal was an amazing experience and if I could, of course I would like to repeat it.”
Susaeta and Athletic are in action against Deportivo La Coruna this Sunday.
