‘We are what we are’ is Rayo Vallecano boss Paco Jemez’s message ahead of tomorrow’s meeting with Real Mallorca.
The Franjirrojos have had a surprisingly impressive start to the season but when they’ve lost they’ve tended to do so spectacularly, Monday’s 4-0 thumping against Real Sociedad a recent example.
“We are a humble team and we do bad things,” the former Spanish international said in conversation with reporters. “Because otherwise we would not be here. We have defects, our budget is only €6.5m.
“We go into this game without two players who play regularly, Alejandro Galvez and Jose Manuel Casado, but I have full confidence in the people who will come into the starting XI. Tomorrow I will decide who.
“It seems as if we are living on the edge after defeat at Anoeta, but we have a level of peace and have not dealt with this clash as if it’s a final.”
Jemez then outlined his respect for opponents Mallorca, who are on a seven game winless run.
“They’re on a complicated streak, not good, but I think they are a team with many options, that defends well and has constructed a good squad.”
