Heynckes surprised by Valencia

Bayern Munich Coach Jupp Heynckes has reflected on seeing a version of Valencia last night that he had not seen a lot of this season.

Los Che drew 1-1 with the Germans at Mestalla on Tuesday night, but Bayern relied on a late equaliser against the 10 men in order to take something away from the game.

“I think that Valencia showed a very high level of performance, very different from the first leg and even from some of their Spanish League matches,” reflected the former Athletic Bilbao Coach.

“Valencia is one of the three biggest in Spain and their performance in this game has been ‘top’, very high. The game was very tight, though.

“We had two just good chances to score, which is sobering. We can improve and reach 100 per cent performance, but I don’t think we were influenced by the BATE-Lille result.”

Lille’s win in Belarus earlier in the evening meant that both Valencia and Bayern had already qualified for the knockout stages before starting their match.
