‘Getafe game no ultimatum’

Victor Sanchez has dismissed the idea that he and his Espanyol teammates have a last chance at redemption this weekend.

The Catalans host Getafe on the Sunday lunchtime bottom of the table amid fans’ frustration at both on-pitch and boardroom work.

“We are not taking the game against Getafe as an ultimatum,” began the midfielder to the media today.

“We know that if we were in the middle of the table then it would be easier and quieter. We are in La Primera and we’d like to be higher so that things were calmer.

“We always feel more comfortable at home, but we have to provide reasons for the supporters to encourage us.

“What we would like is to get the people behind us, supporting us, without whistles. If we give them joy they will be with us to the end.”

For Sanchez, the situation has been made worse by the number of red cards the team have picked up this season already and the number of decisions he believes have gone against them.

“We are being unfairly treated. There are actions that have not been blown for against us because nothing happens, ever.

“The more they do against the club, the bigger, the more they should be aware that they are wrong.”

On that note, the club have confirmed that they are appealing to the Competition Committee the two red cards for Hector Moreno and Sergio Garcia, handed out during Valencia’s 2-1 win over Los Pericos at the weekend.

Espanyol’s argument centres on the players’ ‘correctly’ protesting the referee’s decision to award the last minute penalty to Los Che, describing their protests worthy of the red cards as a ‘product of injustice’.
