Madrid best yet to come from Benzema

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema believes his best days at the Santiago Bernabeu are still to come.

The French international was widely praised for his outstanding performance in the 5-1 victory over Athletic Bilbao on Saturday, when he scored once and provided an assist for Mesut Ozil’s goal, yet despite the Spanish Press acclaiming it as his best game for Madrid, Benzema is not so sure.

“The most important thing is that we have got back to the great Real Madrid team of last season,” he told AS.

“We have done some wonderful things, especially in the way the whole team is moving on the pitch, but I can’t say it was my best game as I’ve been more decisive in others.

“More importantly, after my hamstring injury I feel in good shape physically. After two weeks I needed to feel the pleasure of playing again.”

Benzema then reflected on some of his best performances for Los Blancos, particularly when he came on and scored against Barcelona in last year’s Copa del Rey game at the Camp Nou and his two goals against Lyon in the Champions League.

However, he made it clear he would not be resting on his laurels and was thinking of the next game.

“My best is still to come! On Saturday, in the shower right after the match against Athletic, I was thinking of City [on Wednesday],” he revealed.
