Valencia boss Mauricio Pellegrino has admitted that his side deserved to beat Espanyol, despite only securing victory with a last-minute penalty.
Roberto Soldado converted his late spot-kick to give Los Che a 2-1 win, but the 41-year-old was clear that his team were worthy winners.
“Overall I think we deserved to win,” he told the club's official website. “We had more opportunities and were the better side.
“I am pleased with the team – the way they never gave up in an extreme situation.
“Praise has to go to Espanyol though. They were quality at times and created good opportunities.”
