Cejudo urges Osasuna up

Alvaro Cejudo is clear that Osasuna need to move out of the relegation zone before they can reflect on a job well done.

Los Rojillos ended a run of three consecutive defeats in League and Cup with a 3-0 success at Espanyol last weekend.

However, in preparing to host Malaga in Week 12’s opening fixture, Cejudo is keen that the team continue their form to push out of the relegation zone. Osasuna currently sit 20th, two points from safety.

“The win last weekend was a way of showing that we are there, we are fighting with several teams and this Saturday if we can achieve victory then things will begin to change,” commented the midfielder after training today.

“There were many things we did well against Espanyol, but these are the things we also did against Valladolid, where we didn’t get the first goal and the opposite result has come about.

“Against Espanyol, getting ahead changed the game’s course, they left more space at the back and that’s when we knew things were right and we took advantage.

“If we look at the standings, though, then we do not have much cause for euphoria. We know that at home we have to try and get the three points regardless.

“If we can win on Saturday and were able to leave the relegation zone then things would look differently.”

Osasuna’s win last weekend also alleviated pressure on the Coach, who was rumoured before Week 11 to be on the verge of the sack.

“We knew it was a tough situation for him and it is clear that from day one we will be with him to the death, both with him and his coaching staff.

“Hopefully this week we will be able to repeat the work from the other day and make everything a little calmer.”
