Ramos respects Panama threat

Sergio Ramos has outlined Spain’s intention to take tonight’s opponents Panama seriously in their international friendly.

La Roja face Julio Dely Valdes’ 46th-place FIFA-ranked side as world number ones this midweek with an experimental squad selected, but Ramos is intent that it is not a reflection of complacency.

“The Coach has informed us of our opponents. They are a team that fights a lot, physically, closing down well. When playing for Spain, there is a responsibility and intention to go out for the win,” commented the Real Madrid man sitting alongside Sergio Busquets at today’s Press conference.

“The conditions, with respect to Costa Rica, will be different, but Spain always comes with a philosophy and a style of play that is very clear…

“Many things can happen, but the intention is to play a good game, taking very seriously the commitment of this game and try to defend our colours with the intention of winning.

“In football, everything is possible, Panama’s players will come out with the idea of beating the champions, but we have our weapons to play football.

“They are a motivated team that aspires to be at the World Cup. I have the utmost respect for them and we know of their potential.

“It is a privilage to play for Spain in every corner of the world.”
