Spain defeat spirited Italy

Goals from Rodrigo, Gerard Deulofeu and Alvaro Vazquez were enough to give Spain Under-21’s a 3-1 win over Italy in Siena.

Julen Lopetegui's men were looking to maintain the winning form that had seen them go unbeaten in qualification for the 2013 European Championship.

And they couldn't have got off to a better start as Rodrigo rounded Francesco Bardi after 19 minutes to give La Roja the lead.

The visitors kept up the pressure, and doubled their lead just after the half hour mark. Deulofeu played a one-two with Pablo Sarabia before finishing.

After the break however, Devis Mangia's side came flying out of the blocks, and pulled one back just before the hour. Samuele Longo latched onto a Nicola Sansone through-ball before finishing well.

Despite some late pressure from the Azzurri, Spain’s youngsters made the result beyond doubt with virtually the last kick of the game as Vazquez completed a hard-fought win.
