Simeone unconcerned by doubts

Atletico Madrid have lost their last two fixtures, but Coach Diego Simeone says that any doubts to have arisen do not worry him heading into the weekend.

Atleti followed up a first reverse last weekend at Valencia with a defeat to Academica in the Europa League on Thursday.

However, in facing Getafe at home this coming Sunday, Simeone has looked to reassure supporters who may be worried by the slight drop in intensity from the team that had won the previous 13 games in all competitions.

“I am not concerned over any doubts created from these two losses,” declared El Cholo at today’s Press conference.

“The two defeats were not equal, but we did lose. We will still continue on the same approach in play as against Valencia. Against Valencia and Academica we controlled the game but from their passivity we could not benefit, we did not get it right in the second line and we had no depth to our wings.

“In the first 15 minutes of both games we were not bad, but we struggled after conceding a second time.

“Does possession play a part in our style? It is interpreted according to the characteristics of who you are playing, look at the Celtic match against Barcelona.

“However, we can always improve. Getafe are dangerous so we must be careful.”

The Coach also responded to the rumours today that he was after Catania’s Gonzalo Bergessio in the January or summer transfer window.

“He is a team player and is courageous, but I have not requested the player. I’ve not yet spoken of the winter market.”
