Granada back boss Anquela

Granada President Quique Pina has refuted claims that the club are considering Coach Juan Antonio Anquela’s future.

Reports earlier this week suggested that the board were weighing up their options over the former Alcorcon boss’ future, due to rising concern over the team’s recent performances.

Despite consecutive defeats to Real Zaragoza and Levante in the League and to Zaragoza once more in the Copa del Rey, Pina has rejected the idea that Anquela is under pressure.

“What I have heard about Anquela since the eighth round of games is not normal. I have confidence in Anquela for two years and I want to renew his deal with Granada for a minimum of three years,” Pina told reporters at the unveiling of his club’s new electronic scoreboard at Los Carmenes.

“I respect that people are concerned, but the problem is those who cast doubt over Anquela’s work. I as President have a responsibility to trust him and I do so until the end.

“The situation we are experiencing this week is delicate. Everything has overflowed and it looks like we are last, without having picked up a single point.

“We have eight points and are out of the relegation zone. When things go wrong is when the unity between the club and its fans is shown.

“The day we played against Barcelona it was all praise and when we won in Mallorca it looked like we were going to qualify for Europe. Now we have two straight defeats and everything is a mess.”
