‘Malaga won’t throw away Cup’

Jose Luis Garcia del Pozo, commonly known as Recio, has promised that Malaga will not be de-prioritising the Copa del Rey this year.

The Costa del Sol side are enjoying a strong start to their League campaign and an even better one to their first season in the Champions League.

Even if teammate Sebastian Fernandez suggested so just yesterday, Recio does not see Malaga looking for an early exit from the Spanish Cup.

“When we began the season we knew we had three competitions, we knew we had a lot of games to come and we will not be throwing away the Cup,” mused the young midfielder, who has made four appearances in the League this season, three from the bench.

“We’re going out there to the death to get a result and then make sure of our progression back in Malaga.

“We are going to show ourselves at a high level, play a good game and show the Coach that he can trust us. It should be a good game there and we will progress to the next round.”

Recio made clear that the players know that it won’t be a walk in the park against their Segunda B opponents Cacereno.

“We know it is hard, we’re in two competitions that are at a high level, and the Coach has told us that these are deceptive games, you go there where the field is not good, but we have to do well and Pellegrini can count on us.

“The Coach will make some rotations and you will see that he will be able to count on everyone, you will see that the team has a good level.

“Their pitch is not in very good condition, but we will try and play our game and not another type, but always with the idea of getting the result.

“It can be said that it won’t be easy, that the pitch plays in their favour, but we like to play and we won’t try another style of play.”
