Anquela questioned at Granada

A report in Marca claims Granada are beginning to question boss Juan Antonio Anquela’s role at the club.

The Andalusians have made a disappointing start to the season and sit just one point and one place clear of the relegation zone, causing some to doubt the former Alcorcon boss.

It is understood that defeats in the last two La Liga games against Real Zaragoza and Levante have not helped Anquela’s cause, although it is not the loss of points that has been of concern but rather the performances.

With almost a quarter of the season played displays so far have not been at the level expected by supporters, save the first half against Sevilla and the 2-1 win over Real Mallorca, and the panic of relegation is already a worry for the club’s hierarchy.

However, after the Levante game Vice-President Juan Carlos Cordero commented that Anquela’s position is safe, at least for the moment, while asking fans to be patient.

Even so, although the word ultimatum is not being bandied about there may be questions asked if Los Rojiblancos fail to overcome fellow strugglers Athletic Bilbao at Los Carmenes this weekend.

Before that, Granada take on Real Zaragoza in the Copa del Rey, where Anquela will give a number of fringe players an outing while welcoming Dani Benitez back following his three-month suspension.
