Getafe taking Copa seriously

Getafe midfielder Juan Rodriguez claims the Azulones are 'excited' about their Copa de Rey clash with Ponferradina on Thursday.

The defensive midfielder's enthusiasm is in marked contrast to Malaga striker Seba Fernandez, who said earlier today that he struggles to take the competition seriously.

“We get very excited about this cup, because we have done very well in it in the past,” Rodriguez told AS. “We want to go very far in it but we must start with a good game against Ponferradina.

“Although they're in the Segunda Division, they will make things very difficult. We have to be careful. We have time to talk about the League when the next games comes around. We have something important, which is the midweek cup game, and we cannot deviate from it.”

The former Deportivo La Coruna player then reflected on Getafe's surprise 2-1 win over Athletic Bilbao yesterday, a game in which he scored.

“We're very happy with the win, it was very important after the loss to Levante, and if you can contribute a goal, all the better.

“The whole team had a good game yesterday. We knew with Athletic it would be a very back and forth game and the team suffered and worked.”
