Cesc: This was our best game

Cesc Fabregas believes that Barcelona played their best match of the season so far in defeating Rayo Vallecano 5-0 at Vallecas.

The League leaders recorded the comfortable scoreline on Saturday night, but as the former Arsenal midfielder reflected, it was only a sign of how far Rayo pushed them, rather than how easy it may have seemed.

“This is our best so far this season. We knew it would be the hardest game we were going to have,” reflected Fabregas afterwards.

“We were very tight, they did not allow us to breathe, but we knew how to play. We came into this mentally prepared that it would not be easy. We have been played on a one on one basis, but we knew how to stand up.

“Rayo were fresh, they have many strengths. We knew that we had to be at our best until at least half-time. Anyway, we got that goal and we had other opportunities.”

Barca played the game with a makeshift defence of Sergio Busquets and Adriano in the centre, which was the side’s eighth different back four from 12 games played.

“It is what it is. When we are all available, the team is spectacular, but with five out injured and all in the same place, it is noticeable.

“This shows, though, that we have many alternatives.”
