Derby ‘not about wounding rivals’

Saturday's derby between Celta Vigo and Deportivo La Coruna must show off the good side of Galicia, says Depor's Juan Dominguez.

The local rivals come face to face in La Liga for the first time in five years tomorrow at Balaidos, and while Celta defender Hugo Mallo confessed to barely being able to contain his excitement earlier today, Dominguez is keeping cool.

“You get messages and people are very excited,” the 22-year-old midfielder admitted at a press conference. “But the key is to focus on your game because only three points are at stake and you must treat it in isolation.

“These kind of games are a celebration, they're not to make statements about wounding a rival. Both teams are Galician and the game has to be good news for Galician football.”

Dominguez, who came through the ranks at Riazor, admits the injury to Abel Aguilar frees up space for him, and confessed his admiration for Celta's youth system.

“I have more chances to start games with the injury of Aguilar, but there are other midfielders and it's not yet known who will play.

“We must be honest and say that Celta have utilised their youth system optimally. Many of their youngsters are starting and that is very admirable.”

The game kicks off at 19.00 UK time tomorrow.
