Javier Mascherano has been given a one match ban after his appeal against his sending off in La Coruna failed.
Mascherano, given a red card for allegedly elbowing Deportivo striker Riki last Saturday, has also been fined €600.
The Argentine, a converted midfielder, will miss this coming Saturday's trip to face Rayo Vallecano.
“The video evidence does not establish conclusively and beyond doubt the existence of an error,” read a Competition Committee statement.
