Belarus criticised for Spain defeat

Belarus’ President has launched a scathing attack on his nation’s football team for their 4-0 defeat to Spain last week.

The team fell to World Cup qualifying defeat on Friday in front of a home crowd in Minsk in what Alexander Lukashenko felt was a less-than-bold manner.

“I've never seen such a disgrace for our nation,” the outspoken leader told Reuters today.

“Our national team, excuse my language, just shit themselves. They came out on the pitch with their legs and arms shaking. Look at the Georgians… they fought against Spain to the last minute… can you say that about our team?

“I'd tell you the truth, we had used the administrative levers to bring 40,000 people to fill the stands. And what did we get for it?”

Belarus are currently bottom of Group I, having suffered defeats in each of their three opening qualifiers for Brazil 2014.
