Stuani: I want success at Espanyol

Striker Christian Stuani says he has signed for Espanyol to be a success and that the team will soon start to climb the table.

The Italian-Uruguayan [pictured, left] joined Los Pericos in the summer from Reggina, having spent the last three years on loan in Spain with Albacete, Levante and Racing Santander, and is confident he has made the right decision.

“I’m very happy here because I was received well from the first day and I’ve worked hard to try to adapt to the team quickly. Now the important thing is to get out of the situation we are in.

“For me it is very important that I was on Espanyol’s agenda and I want to repay the trust and faith placed in me. They took a chance on  me and I want to give them something back.”

Stuani considers it is the prime time in his career to have joined the Catalans, yet despite still having to open his account after five appearances in La Liga this term he is in no doubt things will be looking up at Cornella El-Prat very soon.

“This year I have high expectations and want to improve on what I’ve done in previous years. I came here at a key age and think I can have a good season. After several experiences with other teams I think Espanyol is a great opportunity for me.

“I’m trying to find my best level step by step so I need to work hard to try and earn a place in the side. The team obviously comes first but I want to be a success and am proud to be here.

“We are going through a difficult time but nobody here is in any doubt we will get out of it,” he added.
