Botia not thinking of Spain call

Sevilla defender Alberto Botia is loving life at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan and putting thoughts of a Spain call to one side.

The former Barcelona B centre-half arrived at Sevilla from Sporting Gijon this summer.

“The day I arrived the Antonio Puerta trophy was played, and the feeling within the field, the club and the fans is awesome,” Botia told AS.

“For now I'm doing well with my club. If the national call-up came I would be happy and work well with them. But for now I am thinking of the club and me, nothing beyond.”

Los Nervionenses are hoping to pick theirselves up with a win over Real Mallorca this weekend, having lost to Celta Vigo before the international break.

“What happened in Vigo could happen to other clubs,” the 23-year-old insisted. “ The sooner we get up, the better.

“Mallorca started well, but in recent games have also fallen. Joaquin Caparros gives much strength to the team.”

Botia closed with praise for Coach Michel and a mention of the club's ambitions for the season.

“If the team is working well that also means the Coach is doing something right. We're all looking in the right direction.

“Hopefully we get to the top of the table and into European competition. It's something nice and something we fight for, we think of nothing else. We want to put Sevilla amongst the big clubs, because that's where they belong.”
