Alonso relishes French exam

Spain midfielder Xabi Alonso admits the World Cup qualifier against France is a special game for him personally.

The deep-lying playmaker scored both goals and won his 100th cap when Spain defeated the French 2-0 at Euro 2012.

“Obviously it was a good game for me at the Euros,” he said at a Press conference. “I passed the hundred game mark, we qualified for the semi-finals, and I scored two goals.”

Alonso then gave the low-down on his Real Madrid teammate Karim Benzema, and looked at Les Bleus' other danger men.

“Benzema has mobility and is very comfortable inside and outside the area. Him and Ribery are the most destabilising but there's Yohan Cabaye, Mathieu Valbuena, Jeremy Menez on the right…they have alternatives and we can expect a different team to that of the Euros.”

The former Liverpool man is content with La Roja's recent form and his own displays.

“We had a very good game against Belarus, moving the ball well and scoring early. Lately with the selection I've been playing more advanced but I feel comfortable there.”

Alonso ended with words on the financial crisis in Spain.

“Of course it has an impact. Look at the the lack of investment at clubs or the fact that the Belarus game was not televised. Football is impaired, we are not immune to the situation the country is going through.”
