Garcia confident of injury return

Espanyol striker Sergio Garcia has confirmed he is close to a return after being sidelined for two months with a broken metatarsal.

The 29-year-old forward suffered the injury during pre-season, and after surgery, has admitted he cannot wait to play for the Periquitos' again, hoping that his inclusion will improve the team's fortunes.

“I'm doing some work with the team, but it remains to be seen whether or not I will play soon. I am getting better every day , but depends how I get on in the next week,” he told AS.

“I hope my return will help the performance of the team,” he added. “The team has been scoring goals – that's not a problem. But when I return there will be some more competition for everyone. For me though, it will not be easy to get back in the side.

“Sometimes this season we have not had that bit of luck we have had before. I'm sure that we could have had some more points, and I'm positive that the group is moving forward.”

Mauricio Pochettino's side are currently bottom of the League after picking up just two points from their first seven games.
