Tiago Mendes has reflected that Atletico Madrid’s success so far this term is down to their ‘number one’ man, Coach Diego Simeone.
This term has seen Atleti go unbeaten through the opening seven rounds of action and they are enjoying the international break currently joint top of the Primera Division with Barcelona.
For midfielder Tiago, the responsibility is purely Simeone’s, for transforming the players’ into a united group.
“Simeone is the number one, he is our man, guiding us along the way. He and his entire crew,” the Portuguese told Atletico’s official website today.
“We are working very well and we are all working with him as a group that is very strong. We know that what counts for him is the group and the truth is that we all comply to anything that he asks of us.
“The important thing is this, being all together, thinking in the same way. I think that is because of the strength of the Coach and the strength of the group.
“The truth is that we are all with him, he has introduced us to work and we believe in what he says. All this makes us a very strong team.”
The midfielder then turned his attention to the season’s targets for the club.
“We have started very well in the League this year and in the Europa League as well, where we currently have six points. I believe that we couldn’t ask for anymore, but we must continue. The next game is always the most important.
“It’s hard to put a ceiling on the team right now. We have started very well and we have said from the beginning that we want to qualify again for the Champions League and that is certainly our goal.
“It is important for the team, for the club and for the fans that we go back to that tournament.”
