Arbeloa happy to play CB

Fullback Alvaro Arbeloa has said he is ready to step into a central-defensive role for Spain if required.

La Roja go into tomorrow night's World Cup qualifier against Belarus without Barcelona centre-backs Gerard Pique and Carles Puyol, but Real Madrid man Arbeloa is ready and willing to deputise.

“It's some time since I played in that position but hey, I'm always available to the Coach,” the former Liverpool player told AS.

“I feel valued by by my peers and that's what counts. I guess the media value others more than me but I don't worry about it excessively.”

Arbeloa doesn't expect the Belarussians to be as defensive as Georgia were last month.

“It is normal for teams to be defensive against us, but I don't think they'll be quite so exaggerated. Belarus are a good team, we've seen their game against France.

“A loss here would be expensive, sometimes those that seem the weakest are the most dangerous. No one is thinking of France yet.”
