Arana: Rayo success not lucky

Rayo Vallecano winger Manuel Arana is delighted by the team's early season results – despite playing no part in them.

Arana has looked on from the sidelines as Rayo have collected 10 points from their first seven games under new boss Paco Jemez, climbing to 10th in La Liga after Saturday's 2-1 win over Deportivo La Coruna.

“The ten points aren't lucky, they have came through labour, intensity and unity,” the 27-year-old told a press conference today.

“They are a reward for what we do every day.”

Former Racing Santander man Arana is optimistic he will get game time as the season progresses.

“I'm working, and with the friendly against Leganes now is a good time to get minutes. I'm trying to do well, to prove he can count on me.

“Sometimes in football you have to be strong minded and that's the situation I'm in right now. What you need to do is keep training, its a marathon not a sprint. There are 31 games remaining and hopefully I will be able to take advantage of opportunities soon.

“I'm very comfortable at Rayo, very happy.”

Jemez's side face Espanyol when La Liga resumes after the international break.
