Pellegrini: neither side deserved win

Malaga boss Manuel Pellegrini felt neither side deserved to emerge with all three points after the 2-1 defeat at Atletico Madrid.

The Chilean believed his side had been hard done by and deserved to have taken at least a draw away from the Vicente Calderon.

“Neither side deserved to win and a draw would have been fairer, but we lost that final ball near the end and Atletico took advantage.

“The refereeing was normal but when they play at home there is constant friction and it’s very difficult to obtain points on this ground, although there could have been a push on Weligton for their winner,” he told assembled media.

However, Pellegrini does not believe Diego Simeone’s side can break the stranglehold of Barcelona and Real Madrid despite having gone level on points at the top with Tito Vilanova’s men.

“Atletico are certainly a team that can fight for third place in La Liga, like others such as Valencia, Sevilla and Malaga, but none has a chance of winning the title.

“The differences between Barcelona and Real Madrid are very great,” he added.
