Pinto staying with Barca

Barcelona reserve goalkeeper Jose Manuel Pinto is staying with the club, according to his agent Juan Maraver.

The 36-year-old has been the subject of recent rumours that he was about to leave the Catalans in search of first-team football, yet Maraver has moved to dispel the notion in declarations to Viva Sevilla.

“I’m sure he is not going to leave in the January transfer window as there are so many trophies to play for. Besides, he has his business interests in Barcelona and he is very settled there,” he said.

“All this talk has greatly surprised me, particularly since we are only in September. We sit down with [director of football] Andoni Zubizarreta every year around December or January and analyse the player’s continuity at the club.

“Pinto signed a contract renewal last January and we still have to sit down again to know Barcelona’s plans with respect to next year.”
