Del Nido: Medel appeal should succeed

Sevilla President Jose Maria del Nido is confident midfielder Gary Medel's two match ban will be overturned.

The Chilean received the sanction earlier today as punishment for his altercation with Cesc Fabregas and subsequent red card last weekend.

“There is a sense of injustice, but at the same time, tranquillity and hope,” Del Nido told SFC Radio. “Because the wording of the Competition Committee's decision gives the idea that the two match ban could be reversed and turned into a yellow card.”

The committee disagreed with the referee's version of events and said there was “no aggression in the strictest sense.”

“Objectively and from a legal and technical standpoint, I have to be optimistic,” the patron continued. “It should be resolved with the committee repealing Medel's two game suspension.”

Del Nido also stated that he had recommended Medel travel with the team for Friday's visit to Celta Vigo, in case the appeal succeeds in time for him to take part at Balaidos.
