Weligton: Malaga will be tested

Weligton is anticipating a tough test for Malaga this week, as they face Anderlecht and Atletico Madrid over four days.

The Costa del Sol side are currently unbeaten this season but centre-back Weligton is aware that the trip to Belgium for Wednesday’s Champions League group match, followed by a League visit to Madrid on Sunday, will be a real test.

“We know that with European competition we face a lot of games within a few days,” mused the 33-year-old today.

“We are ready to give everything in these two games before the international break. You can win on any field with the right mentality, but we know it will be difficult.

“We have moved on from Zenit, there is far to go and we have to remain calm. Anderlecht cannot be trusted because in a competition like this there is never an easy game. However, we are capable of achieving victory.”

Even so, the Brazilian does not see his side as the favourites for the midweek game.

“We are not favourites, we go into this with a state of humility and aim to work to maintain our form.

“We have a way of playing and do not know another way, the most important thing is the desire we have and that we want to continue.

“We have seen little of Anderlecht, today and tomorrow we will see many things, but we are a tough team who will make it complicated for them.”
