Players behind Pochettino

Espanyol midfielder Victor Sanchez has said that the players are fully behind Mauricio Pochettino in trying to reverse their current situation.

The team are cut adrift at the bottom of La Liga at the moment with just one point gained from the opening six rounds of action.

It is a run that prompted the club to confirm that Pochettino’s future with them was safe, a message that has now been followed up by Sanchez as a member of the dressing room.

“We understand that we play and die with this until the situation is resolved,” he began to reporters today.

“It is a difficult time in which everyone should take from what is inside. I think now is not a time for names and egos and certainly the Coach has the full support of the team.

“The next match [against Real Valladolid] is important, but no more so than that of last week. But, if we win then things will be a bit easier.

“We deserve more points than what we have so far. We have made occasional errors. Clearly playing well at times is not enough, we must do well across the 90 minutes.

“We are a team that plays very good football and when we are good can be superior to our opponent.”

The midfielder admitted that nerves were playing their part now.

“It is normal because when things go wrong it is always harder. We were in front of our own support [against Atletico Madrid] and we were nervous.

“But, there will be games where we play worse than our opponent and win.

“The fans can express themselves as they wish and you should ask them [about the chants against the directors]. What I prefer is that many come to the stadium and support us throughout the match.”
