Pellegrini: Season’s just started

Mauricio Pellegrini is still pleading caution at Malaga, despite another convincing League win to maintain their unbeaten start to 2012-13.

The Anchovies temporarily moved back up to second place in the table on Saturday evening with a 4-0 win over Real Betis, but Pellegrini is still clear on the fact the season is still in its infancy.

“The League has only just begun and this cannot be neglected,” he warned reporters after the game.

“We had a good team in front of us and the first few minutes of the game were even, until the penalty incident came.

“It is a significant punishment, but the rules are clear. Someone will have to change it. After the red card and penalty, we became masters of the game.

“The second half left me very happy, the team are continuing their good form and have matured so as to maintain pressure on opponents.

“We must continue to improve on the job. We must also focus now on getting one further step ahead in the Champions League.”

Malaga face Anderlecht in midweek in Europe. Pellegrini was asked briefly of Sheikh Abdullah Al-Thani’s future with the club. It was Al-Thani’s birthday today.

“I am in communication with the owner and I am certain that the project will continue.”
