Real Madrid have released a brief statement offering their condolences to the family of an eight-year-old player at the club who has died.
Benjamin player Alfonso Ezquerra signed for Real’s youth academy in June, but passed away yesterday after succumbing to injuries sustained when hit by a car earlier this week. The youngster was said to be trying to catch a ball when he was hit in the road.
“Real Madrid expresses its deep sorrow at the death of one of its benjamin players, Alfonso Ezquerra and sympathises with his family and friends in this moment that is so extraordinarily hard,” read the club’s official reaction to the news.
Alvaro Morata was one of the club’s players to pass on his regrets via Twitter: “All at the cantera and everyone at the club are with the family of Alonso Ezquerra, benjamin, 8 years old, who died yesterday. All our support is to his family at this difficult time. Rest in peace.”
