Toulalan setback for Malaga

Malaga have been dealt a blow with the news that Jeremy Toulalan has suffered a recurrence of a hamstring problem.

The influential French midfielder was in obvious discomfort after making a 77th minute tackle in the goalless draw at Athletic Bilbao and was immediately substituted.

“The injury is not in the same place as the previous one but it is in the same leg,” confirmed boss Manuel Pellegrini immediately after the game.

“Unfortunately, it happened just a few moments after we were going to bring him off and he could be out for another two or three weeks.”

There was also a short statement via the club’s official Twitter account.

“Toulalan suffered an injury to his right hamstring. The player will be examined on Tuesday to determine the extent of the injury,” it read.

The 29-year-old will now have to wait even longer to make his Champions League debut for the Costa del Sol club after missing the 3-0 victory over Zenit St. Petersburg.

He will be sidelined for next week’s clash with Anderlecht in Brussels, as well as missing La Liga games with Real Betis and Atletico Madrid, while the home match with Real Valladolid on the weekend of October 21 looks a likely comeback date.
