Pellegrini pleased with San Mames draw

Malaga boss Manuel Pellegrini declared himself satisfied with the goalless draw at Athletic Bilbao and said it was a fair result.

The Chilean described the outcome as ‘just’ in view of how things turned out after a demanding Champions League game against Zenit St. Petersburg, stressing it was a ‘good’ point at a place as difficult to win at as San Mames.

“I don’t think we noticed any fatigue after Tuesday’s game but we struggled when we had the ball.

“We ran with it a lot and lost it with ease but we countered this lack of precision with a great attitude, although it was not the game we would like to have played,” he told assembled media.

Pellegrini added that neither Malaga nor Athletic normally play as they did as ‘both teams are offensive and it was a shame there were no goals’.

He also revealed that midfielder Jeremy Toulalan, who reappeared after being sidelined for two weeks with a hamstring injury, had suffered a recurrence of the problem and will be out for a further two or three weeks.
