Jose helped Granero pick QPR

Esteban Granero says that Jose Mourinho convinced him that leaving Real Madrid for Queens Park Rangers this summer was the right move.

The Spaniard left the capital club late this summer to join the London side and revealed this week that Mourinho influenced his decision.

“Jose thinks I’ve made the right decision – he thinks I am going to be happy here and that I will enjoy this league a lot,” the midfielder told the Daily Star.

“He also told me very good things about Queens Park Rangers and about our manager here, Mark Hughes. Jose said many good things about him. It is true that Mourinho helped me pick here.”

The player also reflected on how the move fulfilled a career ambition.

“Since I was young I knew I’d play in England. I always told my family that I would come here one day.

“That time is now and I’m so happy to be here in a beautiful period for Queens Park Rangers. This club has a wonderful project – to grow and to become one of the best clubs in the UK.

“There were other clubs in England interested in me but the manager and the president at QPR gave me a lot of confidence by showing how much they wanted me.

“Of course, I’ve spent most of my life in Madrid, fighting for their cause. They’re one of the greatest clubs in the world so leaving was not easy.

“But it was a lot easier because of what was waiting here for me. I’m very excited about the challenge.”
