Pellegrino praises Valencia’s effort

Valencia Coach Mauricio Pellegrino has praised his players’ efforts, despite a surprise defeat at the hands of Mallorca.

It was the first time in eight meetings with a Joaquin Caparros-coached side that Los Che tasted defeat and has left the team disconnected in mid-table.

“My players left their skin on the field, and playing that well we are going to win many games,” asserted the Argentine tactician in his post-match interview following the 2-0 defeat at the Iberostar.

“Today was not our day, and we were not clinical or effective enough at times.

“Our defensive errors have cost us a lot, and frankly, I cannot find even five minutes where Mallorca dominated the play, but we have to forget what has happened, work and think towards the next opponents.”

The former defender, however, admitted that the team have not started their La Liga campaign as expected, as they have taken just five points from five games.

“The reality is we have lost three games in six days. Everything can be improved, but again, we were superior to Mallorca with chances, shots on goal and possession won.

“What have we missed? The last pass to set up the goal.”
