Anquela: We made it tough for Barca

Juan Antonio Anquela told a Press conference his Granada team had made life difficult for Barcelona in their 2-0 defeat on Saturday.

Two goals in the final five minutes put paid to the Andalusians, with Anquela maintaining that it was an almost perfect performance from his players.

“At times we sowed the seeds of doubt in the mind of such a great team and we can’t ask for any more than that,” declared the former Alcorcon boss.

“We made it difficult for one of the greats of the game, who had to resort to all their arsenal. We had done it all, were practically perfect, and it did not appear to be Barca’s day, although that’s football.”

Anquela went on to praise the efforts of his players, while bemoaning the fact that Xavi Hernandez’s superb winner was something they could have done nothing about.

“We lacked very little and did not get what we deserved. We worked very well and we are a good football team that is only missing the points, although I’m really happy because it was an impressive display.

“Xavi’s goal went straight into the top corner and you can’t do anything about that, yet two minutes earlier we had two great chances.

“Nonetheless, I never took anything for granted as 90 minutes is an eternity, but I have great confidence in my team and we deserve to have many more points.”
