Barcelona defender Gerard Pique is a doubt for El Clasico against Real Madrid at the Camp Nou on October 7.
The Spanish international was forced to leave the field with an ankle injury after 10 minutes of the 3-2 Champions League victory over Spartak Moscow on Wednesday and the initial signs are he could be out for two or three weeks.
Pique was treated on the field by the team doctor but was replaced by new summer signing Alex Song and appears certain to miss the La Liga games with Granada and Sevilla, as well the Champions League fixture against Benfica.
“We hope Pique will be back soon but if not then no problem.
“We believe in our academy players and are not afraid to give them a chance,” Barca boss Tito Vilanova told assembled journalists after the game.
