12 years in a row for Joaquin

Joaquin Sanchez holds a unique goalscoring record in La Liga, extended for another season thanks to his strike against Levante this weekend.

The veteran winger, who first scored in La Primera for Real Betis in 2001-02, is the only player to have now scored in each of the past 12 seasons.

Joaquin netted Malaga’s second goal on Saturday afternoon in their 3-1 victory over Juan Ignacio Martinez’ men.

“The last few years have not seen significant numbers, but I have always scored,” reflected the player after the game.

“Let’s see if this year I can work a little better in front of goal and improve personally and for sporting reasons.

“Saturday’s game was not easy, I was eager to score and the truth is that half the goal was [Javier] Saviola’s pass, he made a dream debut with a goal and half a goal of mine.”

Joaquin has scored against every team currently active in the top flight, except for Valencia, Rayo Vallecano, Valladolid and Zaragoza.

Meanwhile, Victor Valdes is the ‘keeper he has beaten the most, netting four times in his career so far against the Barcelona man.

The No 7’s personal best for a single season is nine goals, which he managed in the 2002-03 campaign.
