Lopetegui: Denmark U-21s tough

Julen Lopetegui has reacted to the 2013 European Under-21 Championship qualifying draw, admitting that Denmark will present a ‘competitive’ opponent.

Spain’s Under-21s will face the Danes in a two-legged tie in mid-October for a place in the tournament proper next summer.

“Denmark will be a tough opponent, but we will do everything possible to qualify for Israel,” reacted the Coach on news of the draw.

“They are a team whose style will be similar to that seen in this summer’s Euros. They will be an experienced team, well organised and with talented players.

“We’ll make more conclusions once we’ve seen the videos but, at first glance, they are a team to have not lost a game in the group phase of qualification and will be very compact.”

Denmark finished second in the group stages of qualification behind Serbia in Group 4, but like them and La Rojita, remained undefeated from eight group games played.

“Playing at home first is a slight disadvantage, but we will look forward to it, it will be very competitive. The focus is a lot on us, we know that any opponent we face will make things very complicated and we have to be at our best so as to progress. Our opponents will do everything to stop this from being the case, and it will be a tough tie, very competitive.”
