Levante more important than Zenit

Manuel Pellegrini has called the weekend clash with Levante ‘the biggest game of the week’ for Malaga, even though Zenit St Petersburg await in midweek.

The Costa del Sol outfit welcome the Russians to La Rosaleda on Tuesday for their debut in the group stages of the Champions League, but for Pellegrini, the League clash with Levante on Tuesday afternoon holds more importance.

“We are only thinking about Levante, which is the biggest game we are playing this week. Once that has passed then from Sunday we can start thinking about the Champions League,” declared Pellegrini today.

“We are in a good position in the League. It is three very important points at home, that we cannot escape from.

“There is no indication that Levante are not as strong as last year, they have had two very good seasons. They have found getting into the Europa League no problem and in their last game they secured a great win over Espanyol. I do not see why they cannot be considered a tough opponent.

“We must get used to thinking only about the next game and not the one afterwards, whilst we also should not be afraid of having another game very soon after each one we play.”
