Levante confirm Martins deal

Levante have made official the capture of striker Obafemi Martins on a free transfer, after he rescinded his deal with Rubin Kazan.

Reports earlier this week suggested that a deal for the former Inter man had been agreed and the Valencians have now made it official.

The 27-year-old reached an agreement to cut short his contract in Russia three months early and as a free agent was available to join Levante outside of the international transfer window.

Levante, who earlier this month missed out on Lassad Nouioui after thinking they had originally signed him, have signed Martins to a two-year contract, with the option of a third also inserted. It is speculated that the deal agreed will see him become the club’s best paid player.

“The team is doing well and I hope to play well with them,” Martins reflected on his arrival this evening.

“It is not right to say that I will score a certain number of goals, but I am here and I hope to score many.

“I spoke with [sporting director] Manolo [Salvador] and since then all I wanted was to join Levante.”
