Betis hope for Benat extension

Real Betis President Miguel Guillen has revealed that the club are working on a new contract for midfielder Benat Etxebarria.

The 25-year-old was linked with a move back to Athletic Bilbao over the summer, and also touted for a switch to Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg.

But the Andalusians have now confirmed they are in the process of tying the Spanish international to the club for the foreseeable future.

“We are working on an extension,” Guillen told AS. “He wants to renew and the club want to renew. He is a very important player for us.

“Our goal for this season is to better last season's 13th place finish, and we need our best players to do that.”

Benat joined the club in 2010, and has since made 71 league appearances for the Verdiblancos, scoring 10 goals.
