Griezmann happy at Real Sociedad

Antoine Griezmann says that he is happy with his new role at Real Sociedad and reveals he turned down Barcelona last year.

The young Frenchman, who is now believed to be La Real’s best paid player after signing a new deal last month, has seen his role on the pitch change to a more flexible, central attacking position.

With the rest of the team looking to him to start attacks rolling, Griezmann says he is happy.

“It’s nice to have that responsibility and that pressure to always do well,” he commented after training on Thursday.

“I want to help the team to my maximum. We can play well this weekend to give joy to the people and to get the three points.”

Meanwhile, the 21-year-old also revealed elsewhere today in an interview with France Football that he had heard of interest from Barcelona last year, but didn’t pursue it.

“I had heard of their interest. Apparently, Guardiola wanted me to come and play in the Barca B team to get used to Barcelona’s style of play.

“But that did not interest me. I’m fine where I am. I play in La Liga and my desire to is become known at Real Sociedad. The aim is to play as much as possible and to one day join the senior France team.

“I have the experience. Three years ago I became a professional player, I’ve now played over 100 games at the highest level. Hopefully I will be called up to the national team for France.”
