Simeone: Atleti more competitive now

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone considers his team are showing more commitment this year than last.

The Argentine was speaking after training on Wednesday morning and believes his team as a whole is one that does not rely on any individual.

“The best thing about the start to this season is the competitiveness shown by everyone. If the group is good then the individuals will be better.

“In terms of positions we are more competitive although we have lost the individuality of Diego, but we have reinforced with others.

“I’m happy with the collective effort we’ve put in during games,” declared Simeone, who believes the international break will not have affected his players.

“That’s the way things are and tomorrow we hope to get the internationals back. Almost all our players have played two games so they’ve maintained a good rhythm.

“Those who remained here have worked hard and prepared for the next game,” he added.

Los Rojiblancos face neighbours Rayo Vallecano on Sunday and Simeone says he is not expecting an easy ride against their cross-city rivals.

“They are tough and enthusiastic opponents who will come here to try and play well. They are also brave and have an established way of playing that has got them results.

“I’ve seen all three games and we must be intelligent in knowing how to approach this game.”
