Pochettino reassures Espanyol

Mauricio Pochettino has again reflected on Espanyol’s difficult start to the season, but encourages the fans ahead of the weekend.

Los Periquitos are alongside Osasuna as the only side yet to register a point this season. It is a difficult start that Coach Pochettino is trying to manage his players out of.

“The team is going through a difficult time but the support for them will not falter. For now, do not worry about what might happen if we lose, we cannot play with that fear,” he warned via a Press conference today.

“To win is maybe now even more important, but even so, the players will give everything.”

The Catalans welcome Athletic Bilbao this Sunday for a lunchtime kick-off at Cornella El-Prat.

“With much encouragement I have tried to convey strength and unity to the group now that we are going through an unsteady period.

“I am convinced of the bond between the team and its fans. We are obliged to understand them. There is a constant tension in the game, a win makes everything better and a defeat awakens the ghosts.

“The players face the same pressure [as in every game] and they are preparing with ease and strength.

“We will face a tight game this weekend. We must raise our levels as we have been working towards over the past few days.”
