Soldado starts against Georgia

Roberto Soldado is the surprise pick to lead Spain's attack going into 2014 World Cup qualifying against Georgia this evening.

For the 6.30pm UK time kick-off in Tbilisi, Vicente del Bosque has pulled only the one surprise in his starting XI selection, picking the Valencia striker, who missed out on a place at Euro 2012, ahead of Fernando Torres and David Villa.

Soldado will be flanked by David Silva and Andres Iniesta, whilst Xavi Hernandez occupies the middle of the park alongside the double pivot of Xabi Alonso and Sergio Busquets.

In front of Iker Casillas will sit Gerard Pique and Sergio Ramos in central defence, with Alvaro Arbeloa and Jordi Alba as full-backs.

This is the first meeting between Spain and hosts Georgia.

Starting line-up to play Georgia: Casillas; Arbeloa, Pique, Ramos, Alba; Busquets, Alonso; Iniesta, Xavi, Silva; Soldado
