Fabregas: ‘There’s a campaign against me’

Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas believes he is the target of a smear campaign after some recent below-par performances.

The former Arsenal man has been the subject of rumours he had fallen out with Coach Tito Vilanova and there was even mention he could go out on loan in January, although Fabregas has insisted everything has been exaggerated.

Now, however, he feels there could be campaign against him, although he is not sure where it has come from.

“I do not know who started this mini-campaign against me because I am fine, yet I will not let people who do not know me distort my image,” he told Sport de Barcelona.

“My destiny is to be a fighter and I am only thinking of Barcelona, but I already knew playing here would not be easy.

“I feel loved by the fans and I’ve noticed that in the street and during matches.

“Tito does not see Andres [Iniesta] as a wide player so there is one less place in midfield.

“However, I have never been given anything and I’m going to work to play alongside the best players in the world,” he said defiantly.
