Espanyol get Colotto boost

Diego Colotto has entered the final phase of recovery from injury and is close to returning to Mauricio Pochettino’s Espanyol squad.

The Argentine centre-back, signed from Deportivo de La Coruna during the summer, is yet to make his full debut after fracturing a metatarsal bone in his left foot during a pre-season game with Gimnastic de Tarragona in late July.

However, a successful operation performed in Murcia by recognised foot surgeon Doctor Mariano de Prado has speeded up the process and Pochettino is looking forward to calling upon Colotto after the international break.

The experienced 31-year-old has started exercising on the pitch under one of the club’s physical fitness coaches after initially being given a return date of around eight to 10 weeks.

Over the next few days the defender will exercise alongside Raul Baena and Sergio Garcia, who are also recovering from their respective injuries.
