Madrid call in Mendes over Ronaldo

Real Madrid have called in Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes in a bid to get to the bottom of the player’s problems at the club.

Ronaldo revealed after the 3-0 victory over Granada on Sunday that he was unhappy with certain people at the club, prompting rumours of a possible departure from the Santiago Bernabeu.

According to sources close to Real Madrid, as mentioned by Marca, Cadena COPE and Cadena SER, club officials contacted Mendes by telephone to try and get more details on the Portuguese’s possible discomfort.

However, the surprise came when Mendes revealed he was stunned at what had happened.

“I don’t know what you are talking about,” the agent was quoted as saying.

Mendes is understood to have told Madrid that far from Ronaldo wanting to leave, he understood that he was on the verge of renewing his contract, as both parties had agreed at the end of last season.

Ronaldo is alleged to have spoken to club President Florentino Perez and general manager Jose Angel Sanchez on Saturday, when he conveyed his unhappiness with matters he termed ‘professional reasons’.

Jose Mourinho is thought to have had no knowledge of the meeting and did not comment on it after the Granada game, although Ronaldo’s subsequent discontent only came to light after the Madrid boss had appeared before the media.
